Geeks, dorks, dweebs, spazzes, virgins and stairwell dwellers alike are finally getting the movie their palms and skin have been sweating for. Cinema Blend reports Iron Man will have a role in the upcoming “Captain America 3” (May 2016), launching the epic Civil War storyline, possibly leading up to “The Avengers 3”.
This is a shocking announcement because no one thought it possible to film the insanely popular storyline that pits Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Captain America (Chris Evans) against each other after the government requires them to unveil their identities. It’s an absolutely massive storyline that involves most of the Marvel roster and is probably one of the most beloved series in all of the company’s history. Fans have been begging for an adaptation for years, and it seems Marvel is confident enough to finally deliver.
It makes sense in the grand scheme of things given how Marvel is expanding its cinematic roster (“Doctor Strange” and “Ant-Man” have upcoming movies and “Black Panther” has been confirmed by Stan Lee). As well, the Civil War storyline concludes with Cap getting assassinated, which gives credence to the rumor that Evans won’t renew his contract with Marvel when it runs out—which is said to be after “Cap 3”.
I, like the rest of the world, will be keeping a close eye on the development of this story. Will it just be contained to “Cap 3”, or will it spread over numerous films heading into “Avengers 3”? Speculations will be flying, and the only other development is that Downey Jr. will be receiving a $40 million check for the film, which means his may be quite substantial—meaning big things to come.
I guess we won’t know much for another year until next summer’s Comic-Con, where there is bound to be footage and a more detail synopsis of the movie. Until then, we still have “Avengers: Age of Ultron” coming this May, and Downey Jr. has stated he believes it “may be Marvel’s best movie yet”. So that’s something, and the total destruction that been promised would serve as a likely catalyst for the Civil War storyline.
“Captain America 3” is set to open May 2016 and will so far star Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr, and will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
